Securing adequate supply chains for expanded production

One of the issues in scaling is how to ensure adequate supplies of key inputs that can keep pace with developments higher up the chain. Securing a better balance between the supply capacity of fair trade producers with demand has been one of the current issues being tackled by the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation (FLO). Sales of organic food have been held back in some areas by a lack of local supply. In some social sectors the shortage is of trained people. A venture may take it on itself to ensure this synchronisation of growth, but it is also undertaken by an industry body like the Soil Association or the UK energy efficiency body National Energy Services.
